A team of architect-builders from UIC and UdK collaborated with Grün Berlin, the management company for the Templehof Airfield, in an intensive design project examining the phenomena of temporary urban intervention and re-use in Berlin. StudioBerlin designed and constructed a temporary pavilion on the historic Templehof Airfield, inspired by Berlin’s unique approach to under-utilized space and undeveloped land in the city. The concept focused on creating shade, color and distinct geometry, providing an oasis to anyone who ventures into Templehof’s grand open fabric.

It is a rare opportunity for architecture students to build, to take the ritualistic sketching, clicking, and speculation of the studio one step further. Collaboration is production. Although the pavilion’s three day existence will soon metamorphose into an architectural memory, energy and bliss clearly radiated from the site. The final moments of the construction process were full of anticipation and excitement. Collaboration is inspiring. This is architecture in action. The idea is alive. Let it breathe. Let it stand. Let it speak. Just a little bit longer. Cheers.
